Allison Ritchie is a Tasmanian-born politician and community leader, who has dedicated her career to improving the lives of those in her hometown of Hobart, as well as the wider island population.
Allison begun her political journey when she joined the Tasmanian Labor Party. This experience kickstarted a passion for policy and advocacy, and how these two combined can offer social solutions to individuals and local groups. Allison continued to realise this vision in her subsequent role within the Labor Party, as Executive Assistant to the State Secretary of Tasmania, which she commenced in 1996.
Over the next six years, Allison gained a deep understanding of the issues facing people in her State, including cost of living pressures, homelessness, access to education, child and community health and safety, infrastructure development, job creation, and support for seniors and services for people with disabilities. During this time Allison also took on the role of Southern Convenor of the Labor Women’s Network.
People Protecting Children is a volunteer lobby group that was founded by Allison Ritchie with the purpose of highlighting issues relevant to child safety and achieving legislative and systemic change to eradicate child abuse.
People Protecting Children believes that there is nothing more outrageous than the abuse, exploitation and harm of children – the most vulnerable and precious members of our society.
People Protecting Children has been active in local and national media over many years.
People Protecting Children has been active in making submissions to all levels of Government and other relevant bodies, such as the United Nations and the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
